The Maypole Festival/Solar Eclipse

The solar eclipse is on the way and will be here on the 8th of April. I think a solar eclipse is where the sun is blocked out by the moon and it gets dark. I have only seen this one time and it was so long ago that I can't remember it. It should be a good time for everyone; there is plenty of room. Everyone come out and enjoy the rare event that we are all privileged to be alive for.

For the maypole festival we are building a stage and are going to have people come and set up things like face paint and food. There will be music and a band but it will be a hometown band. The entry will be free for everyone however there will be things that require money like face painting and food. There will probably be an arts and crafts table for children to paint different wooden things with paint. It won't be much (expense wise), but there should be enough to keep people entertained while they wait for the maypole to be decorated with ribbon. If you have never been to a maypole festival it is a site. the celebration of spring is a wonderful time. In fact it was a Scandinavian tradition that had been adopted by many countries in the middle ages and many years to follow. There is a pole that stands erected in the field waiting for everyone to dance and string ribbon around it. The dances are the process of acting out traditional activities one does for a trade. An example would be of a person churning butter, or a man sawing a log with an imaginary saw. It happens at the same time as easter and coincides with it. The church didn't originally approve of the maypole festival. In fact it was banned by English protestants in 1650. A common way of rebelling against the Church of England was maypole dancing. So come out and dance with the arrival of the spring festival known as the maypole festival.
